Homeowner Eligibility Requirements

Although eligibility requirements can vary from city to city below are some basic eligibility requirements:
  • Applicants must have a gross annual household income based on HUD guidelines.

    • $12,400 to $22,733 for a family of 2
    • $13,950 to $25,575 for a family of 3
    • $15,500 to $28,416 for a family of 4
    • $16,700 to $30,616 for a family of 5
    • $19,200 to $32,908 for a family of 6
    • $19,200 to $35,200 for a family of 7
    • $20,450 to $37,491 for a family of 8

  • Applicants must have rented for the past 6-12 months depending on the city where Habitat houses are available.

     
  • At least one adult applicant in your family must have legal permanent residency or citizenship in the United States at the time of the application.

     
  • Applicants must have steady income, good credit and a minimal level of debt.

     
  • Applicants and their family must be willing and able to perform 500 hours of "sweat equity."

     
  • Applicants must have not owned or co-owned a home in the last 3 years.
