Our friends from Aiken (Lutheran Church) who specialize in roofing are going to spread the roof job out over 2 days to avoid heat problems. So we can use 5-7 volunteers to support the roofing guys Friday the 27th– 8 am. Please contact Alicia or Harvey and make your commitment so they know whom they can count on.
You can count on a good lunch and shorter day!
The trusses are up, and so is some of the decking for the roof. Work
this Saturday will be helping to finish the decking - laborers of all
kinds are needed (climbing not required).
We will need 10-15 volunteers each Saturday for the next few weeks.
For those who haven't been to 1113 Austin (Donald Case's Fox 54
house), here is a Google maps cite - cut and paste to address bar if
it doesn't look like a link on your email:
The Directions
Thanks for all who have been out there in the heat - should be little
cooler this Saturday. We want to start at 8am, and lunch will be at
noon - we are grateful for the fine restaurants that have been
providing the food for our hungry workers.
See you Saturday! |

Habitat for Humanity of North Augusta and Fox 54 Announce Groundbreaking!
N. Augusta, SC - In an effort to create more affordable housing in the CSRA, WFXG Fox 54 television has joined forces with Habitat for Humanity of North Augusta to make homeownership a reality for a single father and his two young daughters. The groundbreaking ceremony will be at 11:00 am, Saturday, April 19, 2008, at 1113 Austin Street, North Augusta. The public is invited to attend.
WFXG, with event partners Digital HomeScape, SRP Federal Credit Union, Household Rentals and Sales, Express Cash, Champion Window and Door, and Comcast, are making a financial contribution as well as providing dozens of corporate volunteers for the project. A series of team builds will kick off on Saturdays after the groundbreaking, with WFXG staff and partners working alongside Habitat board members and volunteers, and the future homeowner.
WFXG's contribution is a great example of the station's commitment to the community."We are extremely grateful for WFXG's dedication to this project," said Laurie Lockliear, president of the board of directors for Habitat for Humanity of North Augusta, "they are making a significant investment in our community. Support like this empowers families to make tremendous positive change."
"We are excited about the opportunity to work with Habitat for Humanity, as well as our partners in this project, to help make the dream of homeownership possible for a deserving family. This is our chance to lend support to the community, which has always been so supportive of our station," Clay Boatman of WFXG adds.
Many local dignitaries have been invited to attend the event, which will also include a very special dedication to Jim Hinton. Mr. Hinton has recently retired from more than a decade of volunteer service to the North Augusta chapter, during which time he participated on the board and as construction coordinator. Mr. Hinton oversaw the construction of at least ten homes and his contribution cannot be underestimated.
